Luckily, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to great ice cream parlours across the ACT and the South Coast region. So go on, grab some friends and family, support your local business and enjoy a scoop, or three!

Gelato Messina 

Gelato Messina launched in Sydney in 2002 and has been touted as one of the best gelaterias in Australia. Every one of their 40 well-crafted flavours is made using a unique recipe with super creamy jersey milk from their very own dairy farm. They also have their own hazelnut and strawberry farms and make their own chocolate, brownies, pralines, pastries, fudges and gelato cakes. You can find them in Braddon and Kingston.

Batemans Bay Ice Creamery

Batemans Bay Ice Creamery has beenserving gourmet ice creams, decadentdesserts and mouth-watering crepes forover 42 years. They also do a great savourymenu with crepes, sandwiches and a rangeof breakfast dishes. This local icon is situatedin the centre of town overlooking the ClydeRiver, making it the perfect spot to enjoysome tasty treats with a gorgeous view toboot.

That Gelato Place

That Gelato Place is a family owned business located outside Cooleman Court Shopping Centre in Weston Creek. This great local gelateria serves Australia’s most awarded gelato, Pure Gelato, and has over 100 delicious flavours to choose from. They also sell cannoli, cakes, terrines, mini cones, fresh coffee and a range of gelato accessories. Open for dine in, takeaway or delivery, so there’s no reason not to check them out.

Merimbula Ice Creamery

Merimbula Ice Creamery has over 50 ice cream and sorbet flavours to tempt your taste buds this summer. Expect to find all your favourite flavours here plus a range of sweets – think house-baked waffle cones dipped in chocolate, fluffy pancakes, crepes, cakes, frozen yogurt, Belgian waffles, hot jam donuts, fudge and more. Their impressive menu also includes nachos, hot dogs, milkshakes, smoothies and coffee.

Gelatissimo

Gelatissimo was founded in Sydney in 2002 and almost two decades later, this gelato sensation now has more than 60 stores worldwide and three locations in the ACT – Manuka, Gungahlin and the City. This awardwinning ice creamery makes 50 flavours of artisan gelato fresh in-store everyday using a secret traditional Calabrian recipe. Their range of sweet treats also includes cakes, donuts, waffles and milkshakes.

Bodalla Dairy

Bodalla is known for its history of dairyfarming and cheese production, and theaward-winning Bodalla Dairy is true to form.Founded in 1989, this family-owned businessmakes ice cream daily in their micro-dairy inthe heart of Bodalla, and their exciting bushinspiredflavours are the talk of the town.Think Kakadu Plum and Rum, Coffee andCoastal Wattleseed and Let’s Go Camping, agumleaf smoked ice cream with butterscotchand a macadamia praline. Not surprisingly,they make great yoghurt and cheese too.

Spilt Milk Bar

Spilt Milk Bar was founded in Orange in 2019 and quickly grew a cult following, spurring their growth into Canberra a year later. They make their gelato from scratch daily and source most of their ingredients from local producers and farmers. Their shop is reminiscent of a traditional ice cream parlour, but with a modern twist, which adds some childhood nostalgia to the experience. Don’t miss this one.

Stripey Sunday

Stripey Sundae is located in Nicholls and is a super-cute spot for delicious ice cream, fruity sorbets, milkshakes, great coffee and other tasty treats. Their ice cream flavours change regularly but can include liquorice, mandarin, ruggata tal-lewz and red rippers, as well as old favourites like chocolate, salted caramel, choc-honeycomb and vanilla. What’s more, customers can also play free board games while enjoying an ice cream in-store.

Via Dolce

Via Dolce has been serving artisan gelato and sumptuous desserts in the heart of Canberra since 2013. This family-owned Italian pasticceria boasts an impressive range of flavours including fig and mascarpone, tiramisu, and blood orange sorbet. They also offer woodfired pizza, traditional pasta, great coffee and a selection of sweet and savoury dishes for breakfast and lunch.
