Last month we held our annual staff award night, hosting all 90 staff members of the Blackshaw family. It was the perfect occasion to reflect on the many achievements and milestones of 2021. As our business continues to grow and incorporate more of Canberra’s brilliant property management talent, I’m proud to announce that Darryl Taylor and his team have joined Blackshaw Belconnen.

Over the past 24 months, despite the challenges presented to local businesses, the ACT property sector has undergone a significant period of growth and development. While our business has always matured in response to Canberra’s expanding population and economy, this current phase has really opened up a range of opportunities for us to enhance our industry leadership.

Network expansion

As a franchise agency we continue to invest in the Blackshaw family network, which is why it’s so rewarding to see our franchise Principals increase their market share and welcome new staff. This month Matt and Esther Sebbens of Blackshaw Belconnen announced their merge with Taylors Real Estate in Florey. As engaged members of the local business community, Matt and Esther have been friendly competitors with Darryl since Blackshaw Belconnen was established in 2018.

“Ever since Esther and I commenced our careers in real estate, we’ve heard nothing but great things about Taylors – particularly the solid reputation that Darryl and his father Ralph have maintained over the past 30 years,” said Matt. “We’re excited and humbled to be working with Darryl now, to ensure the legacy of that foundation.”

This expansion of the Blackshaw Belconnen office marks a significant growth milestone for the team. The acquisition of the ACT’s second oldest real estate business will expand the team, improve the range of services provided and increase Blackshaw’s market share in the region.

We are thrilled for Matt and Esther,” said Blackshaw Managing Principal Belinda Chamberlain. “This acquisition is an impressive testament to their ability to build trust within the community. The development of any franchise office boosts the pride of our entire network. It’s also great news for Taylors clients as they’ll benefit from both the existing service standards they’re accustomed to, plus the advanced marketing and technology techniques Blackshaw is renowned for.”

While property values have increased throughout the ACT, Belconnen remains one of Canberra’s more affordable regions. Buyers are also attracted by the opportunity to design and build the ideal family home on a generous sized plot, as larger property blocks are becoming available due to rezoning and redevelopment.

Our ongoing expansion into NSW continues, with the success and growth of our Blackshaw Coastal office in Orient Street, Batemans Bay. As the market returns to more traditional seasonal patterns, we’re seeing increased demand for coastal holiday and investment properties.

Community leadership

We’re very much a part of the communities in which we work and enjoy supporting the causes and activities they value. This aspect of Taylors Real Estate is yet another compliment for this Blackshaw Belconnen expansion.

“We’ve been friendly competitors for the past few years and Darryl became a coffee buddy when we moved our office to Florey,” said Esther. “We struck up a fast friendship as both our businesses are family-owned and community focused. We jointly support Florey Neighbourhood Watch and Darryl maintains a broad network of contacts within the Blackshaw family.”

Our drive to be located where our clients are continues to inspire and boost our franchise business. We’re also especially invested in opportunities for shared insights and learning. Considering that Darryl Taylor and his team helped to build the ACT’s second oldest real estate business, we’re excited about the shared learning of the newly expanded Belconnen office and the benefits this will provide to our clients.

“This smooth transition has ensured that the day-to-day point of contact for Taylors’ existing clients will remain unchanged,” said Matt Sebbens. “Darryl Taylor will join the Blackshaw Belconnen team at our Kesteven Street office in Florey.”
