Continued pause good for property

On Tuesday, the Reserve Bank of Australia opted to keep the official cash rate on hold at 4.35 per cent.

This welcomed pause is likely to inject some stability to the winter property market.

Preceding weeks of speculation of a potential increase have had an impact on recent open-home attendance and auction clearance levels.

Now, buyers can act with more certainty when looking to purchase knowing that rates are on hold, and that we are likely at the peak of the rate-hike cycle.

And while inflation remained higher-than-expected in the March quarter, the Board anticipates further decline by the end of the year given low retail sales and consumer sentiment levels.

All eyes are now on the Federal budget, due for release next week, and how the government will balance the money they put back into the economy to not further stimulate inflation.

The advice if you are a homeowner?

Don’t wait for the RBA to deliver a rate cut. Ask your bank for a better deal, and if they are unwilling, another lender may happily oblige.
